**NOTICE**

I had a member of the forum here pm me.
He was using my hub while running in tall grass, 4-6inches. His clutch shoes got hot and burned up.
Now, some may already know that this is a bad terrain to run the single speed hub but for newcomers I thought I should warn.

The one speed hub basicaly puts your truck in full time 2nd gear. So wear on the clutch is present, but minimal in open areas.

Do not run with the one speed hub in tall grass, up hills at slow speed, small bashing areas where there is alot of slow speed stop and go, even attempting to rock climb, etc.
It will decrease life of the clutch shoes and even ruin them.

I designed the hub to be able to be installed with no modifications to the stock parts. Also when you recieve the hub, it comes in a small zip lock bag instead of an open folded and stapled bag. This is to keep your stock parts in for just this reason.

If your going to run in areas that will require low end torque, like listed above, then I recommend you reinstall the stock setup for that day. I made it very easy to do so. On another note, make it eaven easier and purchase an extra 2 speed cam in install it to the hub.
http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_inf ... ts_id/5907
You will even have extra bushings!

Again, this post if for our "new to RC users".

DUDE!!!!!!!!!!
LOVE IS IN THE AIR !!! EVERYTIME I LOOK AT MY NEW ONE SPEED HUB!!!
Thanks mate, the two one speed hubs turned up today in little old Brisbane, Australia.
immediately got the hair dryer out and installed straight away, looks the ducks nuts!!!
Just a question though, in regards to the little washers, one has got some ball bearings in it.
Do they go before the tensioner spring like with original set up, or after the spring just before the nylock nut?
appreciate your time, and your wisdom =D>

You can setup the thrust washer/spring assy for the slipper the same as you would for stock.
haha,, "ducks nuts",, is that anything like the US version of "Bees knees"? haha

THANKS!!!

Hey dude i know you can not run the speed hub in grass and up hills. But can you run it on short tracks or long straights? I'm using it for racing. What are the do"s and don'ts regarding the hub? Will the motor heat faster because it"s in second gear all the time? Are there things I need to know before going to a big race? What are the performance differences between the one speed hub and the original hubs that are on an rc car? Are there issues that I need to be aware of when using the one speed hub?

For racing on tracks I don't feel there are any "donts" ... I run the One Speed Hub on all different tracks and it gets a big thumbs up on all of them ... you should always be checking your clutch regularly anyway ( I usually check mine before practice/quals and then again prior to the main)... make sure your bearings and mesh are good and go get em ... your engine temps are not effected by starting and staying in second gear

Yep! Everything Jed Said! Of all the users of the hub, Jed here, has provided the MOST field running feedback. If the hub has a flaw, or any detail of when and where it should or shouldn't be used, he is the one to listen too.

Thanks Jed!

Hey dude, just thought I'd add my 2 cents worth on the hub. Well first of all, I bolted it straight on and started using the truck in my typical manner with out checking the clutch shoes first. I found I had to lean it out a bit to get a bit more get up and go. It ran fine, great even for about 1/2 a tank then the gremlins started creeping in... It fried the clutch shoes, and built up all this gunk on the inside of the bell, that was ok though I was able to file it all off and start again. The next problem was that the 3 screws that retain the hub to the spur gear came out and chewed the teeth up on the spur, so I have put longer screws in with a nylock nut on the end of each one..... problem solved. Think all I gotta do now is get some long life clutch shoes, oh and some new slipper pads. How important though is it to have that thrust bearing with this set up?, as the one I got, all the little balls have fallen out??

Without the thrust bearing your slipper will not be able to work properly...it probably won't slip at all. Then your back to square 1..clutch issues and more slipper pads. Anyway...I use these..http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_inf ... s_id/18517 they will probably last longer than the truck!!!

After having spent a lot more time with the One Speed Hub I feel more qualified now to make certain observations ... I don't believe that this hop up is exclusive to racing and I have every intention of running it on my basher during this Fall and Winter ... I truly believe that with the proper setup (Teflon Clutch Shoes/properly shimmed and meshed bell and the proper slipper setting) I could bash the daylights out of this thing on any terrain, except maybe constant steep hills, all day long with only the typical wear on bearings and shoes ... the savings of money and aggravation on OWB's, 2 speed shoes and 1st gear itself is a no brainer IMHO ... when I get a chance I will put some video up and you can judge for yourself :D ...I might be wrong ... but I don't think I am ... and I guess I will find out
Keep in mind this opinion is based on a solid half season of racing on the same HPI shoes with a Picco P3 .28 and Avid bearings
To me this is right up there with the BAC and engine brace in terms of upgrades ... great work Dude!

Jed what gear ratio are you running with the one speed hub?

I'm looking into getting one of these and want to make sure I order the right parts the first time.

Thanks

I run 8 mans +2's and the stock spur with 17mm tires ... and the gear flip (tranny) ... still wish it had more top end and always wanted to try +4's ...just never got around to it ... but I'm confident you would still have plenty out of the hole

Ok. I might have to do the gear flip then if that adds more top end. I'm still running the stock FOC raminator tranny. I'm also going to look into the 8 man parts.

Thanks...... :P

I received my one speed hub this morning in the mail and went directly to installing it. The fit is excellent and just like TD says just heat it and lightly give it a tap and it's on. I also installed a lst threaded clutch bell with a +2 pinion from RC Monster along with a new set of dynamite max life shoes and 1.1mm springs.(this is with a lrp spec 3 .28 on my muggified lst)

So far I'm in love with this setup. The Dude has a proven winner here and I think that the one speed hub should be on every racer's "gotta have" list. I will post back later with some pics and video...... \:D/

I'm a basher just considering the single-speed hub, but those thrust bearings just went on my wishlist for the next order. =D>

Anyone else just bashing with the single speed hub? I'm currently running stock LST2 gearing, FOC w/gear flip LST2 tranny, teal Mach 427. I had a handful of TD stuff on my old MGT and am pretty convinced that anything he puts out is going to be good.

MrNate,,
Jed posted his opinion here viewtopic.php?f=42&p=180041#p163545 on using the hub for bashing. I know that many customers of the hub are bashing with it.
