MotorSaver has a filter out,

1/8 scale RC truck air filter was completely redesigned. We increased the surface area as much as possible allowing for even better breathing and less clogging. This nitro RC air filter has a new very fine micron opening that keeps out dirt better than ever before. Our plastic is specially formulated exclusively for Motor Saver air filters for extreme lightness.

Well at least it shouldn't kill as many engines as it's predecessor. :D

My Motor Savers filter looks just like that, except it doesn't have the cool body clip to hold on the solid top cover.
Mine has a screen top, and the filter is closed at the top.

And the infamous, older style, dirt magnet:

Nothing like a brand new 4 tank motor cruising around the track that dies because the top piece fell out and allowed ROCKS to get in the carb. #-o #-o #-o #-o BTDT.........

Got my Motorsaver Filters \:D/ .... http://www.motorsaver.com/

New 1/8 scale buggy / truggy / MT / RC air filter was completely redesigned.
We increased the surface area as much as possible to still be able to fit under most buggy bodies, allowing for even better breathing and less clogging. This nitro RC air filter has a very fine micron opening that keeps out dirt better than ever before. Our plastic is specially formulated exclusively for Motor Saver air filters for extreme lightness.

The outer screen dramatically cuts down dirt penetration into inner foam, which increases the life of the foam between cleanings. Inside foam comes pre-oiled. Foam can quickly be removed and easily cleaned.

Image

Outer foam will not get as dirty as quick.

Image

Inside oiled foam has seals around rim top and bottom and through center hole for tight seals from any dirt penetration.

Image

Outside screen has a new tighter micron opening that repels more dirt than previous models. The screen is also designed not to absorb moisture.

Hopefully it'll Warm up sometime soon so I can test them in the Snow.....

Well I can vouch that so far in the snow that micron screening is doing a great job of keeping the foams dry! I was very skeptical of this but ave seen the trueth in person.

I have recieved an email from motor saver here is what it said:

Me

"Thank you very much! I look forward to helping out in any way I can. Right now I'm in the mittle of a Canadian winter, would you also like me to test in the snow? As of right now I have built my own water sheild for the filter that I am using, you are saying with your new '09 filters this won't be needed? The rest of my vehicle is water proofed so i have no problems testing in wet and muddy conditions. I have a feeing that a sheild of some sort would probably be a good idea but I will take your word for it and give it a go with out and see how it makes out."

Motor Saver

"The screen we are using is now water repellent, which will allow the engine to breathe in moist conditions. But, you are right, if it's in a prolonged wet condition the water will find its way through the foam to the engine. We are not sure how long that might be, e.g., 1 tank of gas, 4 tanks of gas, 10 tanks of gas, etc. That number could be very helpful. If your are concerned about ruining your motor, which could happen, I would not suggest doing that test. At a later date we might design a water deflector that could solve all those problems."

Personally I know I plan to push for a water/snow/mud gard.

The brace is a good idea, but it looks like the case is melting a bit where its hitting the engine fins.

I posted in the tips n tricks a good while bac but I put a 3/4 inch external snap ring on the air filter tube where it goes on the carb. It is somewhat fiddly to get it on but once on I can lift the truck by that tube yet it will still rotate around on the carb...for what it's worth. 8)

Got my free filter and acccessories a week ago. They look to be designed pretty well. My only concern would be that the front is blocked off and no air can get through. Just thinking out loud.....but wouldn't that cut off a major part of the air supply.

Its not melting its rubbing from vibration. It will stop as soon as it wears enough away. not a big deal.

I wouldn't be worried about that. the stock filter has the front end blocked too. Alot of filters do.

And the Motorsaver's Kick Ass! =D> I drove 4 or 5 tanks in the Snow & and on the Street with Lots of Deep Puddles (Which Killed the Throttle Servo in my LST2 #-o ) So I grabbed the LST1 and Pounded a few Tanks threw it too.....

Anyway the Motorsaver Sheds the Snow Very Good and Did a Great job at keeping the Foams Clean and Dry =D> =D>

Although I received my filter a month or so ago, I only had a chance to run it yesterday. It looked real good and though it was going to hold up as well but I was wrong :x .

First tank, just running down the street and the truck wheelied and just flipped over. I ran to flip the truck over and the filter was on the ground. The base housing was still stuck to the carb but the filter itself was on the ground. After inspecting carefully, it seems that the 4 little sticks that go from the base to the end around which the filter sits just broke off completely. Almost impossible to fix and the filter is rendered useless now.

Mind you my truck has the new era roll bar and still the filter took this much damage.

The following picture is SJ's (An example of how it was when new)
http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/kk1/ ... ics094.jpg

The following pictures are evidence of the brittle plastic used in these filters.

I'm going to write to motorsaver and see what they can do for me. I'm just writing this as a warning so nobody else has to potentially go through this and accidentally ruin their engine.

#-o Aren't the wheels s'posed to stay down? Sounds like maybe there's a nut loose on the controller? #-o That filter works good on stuff smaller than...ROADS...come to think of it...the filter did keep the engine from sucking the road in and ruining the engine.

Honestly man, sorry to hear of your Tinker type luck. I just couldn't resist poking a little fun and that's all it is...poking fun. could you cut a couple slits in the connector tube right below that disk, slip a small thin piece of metal in there with a hole in the center of the metal bar and then run a long 3 mm? screw through the whole setup to hold it together? I haven't held one in my hand so I don't know if the foams would fit on a stocker or not. See. I'm not slow and I'm not fast...just halffast...like some of my ideas.

I'd just buy the stockers off ebay....they go for less than 3 or 4 bucks most of the time. I've got 4 of them and they've never let me down.

The good people at motorsaver said they'll send me a whole new filter and they said that if it happens again, they'll think about redesigning and strengthening the inner tube kind of thing in the filter.
